The ministry of Gospel Recordings was founded in Los Angeles in 1937 by Joy Ridderhof.
After returning from missionary work in Honduras, she realised that the people who were unable to read or write would benefit from recorded messages in their native Spanish tongue of the saving knowledge of Jesus. In this way the existing converts could be built up in their faith and many others reached.
After all... "faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God".
In 1938, thanks to friends' generosity, Joy recorded on gramophone the first Gospel record in Spanish. Soon a flood of enquiries came in for the Spanish records from other Spanish speaking countries in South America, and soon from the rest of the world
From those early beginnings the work has increased and new centres were started in various countries with Joy pressing on with this wonderful and unique vision The Lord had given her. Her faith through her whole life of rejoicing for every circumstance encouraged and impressed everyone she met.
From records to cassettes, CDs and now MP3 players, the work has developed to almost 40 centres and bases around the world under the name of Global Recordings Network. Partnering with other missionary organisations and using their expertise, we want to reach those who are waiting to hear in a language they can understand….their own.
